Never being an especially big fan of the book, I'm not quite sure why I am looking forward to Where the Wild Things Are more than any picture coming out this year....oh wait, I do know! Spike Jonze directs; my boy, DAVE EGGERS, writes it with Spike; I love Catherine Keener; and the trailer is sick (though I've been burned by trailers before. I'm looking at you Superman Returns), which, along with this exlcusive video, make WTWTA look as if it is a movie like no other.

THE 5IVE

1) Alive 2007 -- Daft Punk

2) "Chunder" -- Say what you will, but when I fart, I chunder big time -- chunder, chunder, chunder, chunder. Chunder sauce, chunder struck, Chunder Mountain String Band, Chunder Bra, Chunder, chunder, chunder. It's a real nice word to use often and with gusto.

3) Still: Animal Collective. Enjoying Feels a lot, most guitar driven of their albums (maybe Strawberry Jam?), but Sung Tongs has been awesome lately. "Who Could Win a Rabbit?" is an infectious masterpiece. Sometimes I wish more of AC's stuff was like that.

4) A HEARTBREAKING WORK OF STAGGERING GENIUS by DAVE EGGERS -- Not his best book (WHAT IS THE WHAT) but it's damned good. Manic. The title is fairly accurate.

5) LOVE

What To Say

Here are a few words or phrases that have been floating through my everyday parlance. I use them when appropriate and I suggest you do the same!

"Diesel" -- kind of a high school throwback, but in high school I never cared for it. Now...well, now, I can't get enough! Example: "Wow, that was a diesel bowl pack."

"Re-up" -- Boy, is this a useful expression. It can be used for just about anything like, "Hey, you wanna go with me to Utopia so I can re-up on incense?" or "My music library was deleted randomly a few days ago so now I'm re-upping on my George Michael."

"Fosh" -- i.e. "face". As in, "Oh man, I was out in the sun all day, I got some serious fosh burn."

"_____ sauce" -- Almost anything can be described in relation to a sauce that one has drunk, eaten, or taken. "What'd you, wake up this morning and pour lame sauce all over your pancakes?" or, if someone sucks, in general or at something, "Man, that's some weak sauce."

"Straight" -- Put "straight" in front of almost any word or expression and it adds an emphasis. "That's some straight weak sauce," or "I was fucked up straight out the fosh," or maybe, "I need to straight re-up on that diesel bud I bought last week." Very versatile.

These few colorful expressions will make you the life of any party, or, at the very least, make you sound a tad more interesting to those around you. Make sure you use them in an easy flow -- don't force it at first! -- and I guarantee speaking will be a more pleasurable experience, and a more descriptive one at well. Here's to re-upping your diesel vocabulary!

Djeep-Djeep, Djeep-Djeep, YEAH!

The best lighters available. They're a tad more expensive than your average lighter, but the quality....GOOD LORD, THE QUALITY! The smooth action; the triple tank ensuring 4,000 lights; the child safety features...Sure, you may lose it but, fuck, you can lose anything! So when it's time to re-up on lighters, make it a Djeep, Dan Grgas' lighter of choice.

5) Judge Ito -- he's back!

Extra note, stay in shape. It's good for you to stay in shape. Why not? I can't think of any reasons why not.

Too Much

There is too much that I want to do -- read, listen to music -- when all I really wanna do is just watch some fucking TV on the couch.

Books really kill me. I always feel like I am not reading enough but most of the time I am not reading. Here are some books I want to read -- actually, these books are laying right beside me as I watch PTI and type this.

- Tree of Smoke -- Denis Johnson
-2666 -- Roberto Belano
-The Rest Is Noise -- Alex Ross
- Schulz and Peanuts -- David Michaelis

I am 1/4 through both Noise and Schulz, wanna continue but haven't read in days, weeks, months. I will.

Twitter

Twitter is the ultimate in new. I think it will come to be one of the defining characteristics of our generation, those who are 20-30 right now. Is that a generation? People need to accept twitter like they accepted email, Facebook, youtube, whatever it is. It's good. It is nice. It is useful and isn't just another indulgence that isn't useful.

My twitter handle is DannyMoney. Enjoy.

THIS IS THE BLOG

Welcome! This is Grgas, the new blog by Dan Grgas, which is me, Dan Grgas. Here we go.
